She's hailed to have an empowering, yet calming voice, and Damita would be doing nothing else except singing with a positive message. Damita, who originates from Detroit, grew up singing and performing music around the house and in the church choir. She is the wife of Gospel star Deitrick Haddon, and early on she traveled with the Gospel theater production Mama Don't. She later joined the female a cappella group Adoration & Praise, in which the group recorded one album.

Damita credits her touring experience with the original diva, Aretha Franklin, as an infinite awe-inspiring motivation to make music. Four years after that initial meeting, Damita came together with her husband and pioneering R&B producer Arif Mardin to release her self-titled debut in fall 2000. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, Rovi
