Daniel “Dan G the Punchline Poet” Gonzalez was born in 1981 in Houston, Texas, and raised on the city’s south side, where rhythm, struggle, and storytelling run deep. Growing up in the heart of South Park during the rise of the Screwed Up Click era, Dan G was immersed in the pulse of Southern hip-hop from an early age. He started rapping at 14, while attending Jesse H. Jones High School in 1995, and quickly made waves with his sharp freestyle skills and lyrical wit.
Influenced by legendary Southern acts like UGK, Geto Boys, Screwed Up Click, Swisha House, 8Ball & MJG, and more, Dan G honed a style rooted in classic H-Town sound but elevated by punchlines that hit like haymakers. His clever wordplay and commanding delivery earned him instant respect on the mic, establishing him as a standout voice in freestyle circles.
In 2002, Dan answered another call — joining the U.S. Navy as a medic. Even while serving overseas, his lyrical fire never dimmed. In 2005, he earned the title “King of Arifjan” after dominating a freestyle battle in Kuwait, proving his skills were global, not just local.
Now based in Maryland, Dan G has spent over a decade building a discography that stays true to Houston’s legacy while pushing it forward. His ongoing series, Houston Classics, has grown to four powerful chapters, with Chapter 5 currently in the works.
