Born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, Dato Shake hit it big in the pop music world while living in France, where he scored a record deal and released a hit single, "Tu Sais Je T'Aime," within months of arriving. The single and the performer made a huge impact on the world pop stage, especially in those nations where French was spoken. His success was recognized by his home nation, whose king gave him the title of "Dato," which is an equivalent to "Sir" in the English or European sense.
