Dave Moody

Dave Moody is a multi-tooled artist with decades of experience as a singer, songwriter, producer, composer, and filmmaker. He began his career in the 1980s as a member of <a href="spotify:artist:5NYa8mdVQecCiMNM1fwz35">the Moody Brothers</a>, a North Carolina family band rooted in Appalachian, bluegrass, country, and folk music. In America, <a href="spotify:artist:5NYa8mdVQecCiMNM1fwz35">the Moody Brothers</a> earned a pair of Grammy nominations and played the Grand Ole Opry before spending a decade in Europe touring and working for the <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Walt+Disney%22">Walt Disney</a> Company. Following their breakup, Dave Moody expanded his craft in multiple directions, producing music for others, releasing a series of country-flavored praise and worship albums, and working as a film composer and eventually director of films like 2010's No Limit Kids: Much Ado About Middle School and 2018's Shakespeare School Year. He returned to solo music in 2024 with the single "We're in This Love Together."

Born in Fayetteville, North Carolina to a family whose deep musical roots span multiple generations, Dave Moody grew up on gospel, bluegrass, and folk music. He began playing guitar with his brothers in the late '70s, and they developed a tasteful blend of country-rooted music that showcased both their strong harmonies and their sparkling musicianship. <a href="spotify:artist:5NYa8mdVQecCiMNM1fwz35">The Moody Brothers</a> gained more widespread recognition in the mid-'80s when their instrumental version of "Cotton Eyed Joe" earned them a Grammy nomination. They put out several albums on the family label, <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Lamon+Records%22">Lamon Records</a>, and earned a second Grammy nomination in 1990. After this, Dave and his brothers were hired by <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Disney%22">Disney</a> to play a nightly country music show at Disneyland Paris that ran for much of the '90s, during which time they made frequent tours of Europe.

Around the turn of the millennium, Dave found himself back in the U.S., where he launched a multi-pronged solo career that included reviving <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Lamon+Records%22">Lamon Records</a>, producing music, releasing a series of solo albums, and forming a CCM group called the PraiseStreet Worship Band. His CCM releases earned him a string of GMA Dove Award nominations, including three wins.

Near the end of the 2000s, Moody consolidated his focus into film, first composing the score 2008's Stuck in the Past, then producing and directing family films like Praise Band: The Movie, No Limit Kids: Much Ado About Middle School, and Season of Miracles. Much of this was done alongside his son, Joshua Moody. Dave also continued producing, working on albums by <a href="spotify:artist:6G39Gakqv1r26pZzijSWti">George Hamilton IV</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:43c94u7flZbHSdDaUuohqS">Buddy Jewell</a> while composing the soundtracks to his own movies like Silver Twins (2018) and Shakespeare School Year (2018).
