David Manny. A rapper, singer, producer, and content creator. He grew up in Tanzanian refugee camps erected for the Rwandan refugees seeking asylum from neighboring countries to escape the 1994 genocide. Around the age of eight, him and his family got accepted to migrate to the US after 10 long years of suffering in those camps.
Growing up, David loved music, especially the cultivating, rhythmic, and dynamic sounds of Afrobeat. Growing up in the US allowed him to explore all types of genres of music. He soon fell in love with Rap music. Rap, was the style of defiance. The voice of the oppressed. It had a certain level of rebellion attached to it. David, growing up as a rebellious kid; it didn't take much for him to start mimicking the style of his new heroes.
David took his love for rap and started fusing it with Afrobeat. This style is called Afro rap or Afro trap, which is a style currently popular in France. To him, the sounds are there to create a certain vibe or mood. Where he really focuses most of his energy is in the writing. Not afraid to open up and be vulnerable about the struggles of his past like the effects of the genocide, not having a place to call home, being an outsider in Tanzania and America, one due to his ethnic background, the other due to the color of his skin. His goal is to stay true to his roots but still tell stories.
