David West makes music for people with ears, out of his bedroom in Savannah, GA.
His second album "Loving you is Hell and the Fire is Warm (139 Nights in Savannah, GA)" explores themes of heartbreak, leavings, and beginnings; painted on the canvas of a young twenty-something who has recently moved across the country. For all of its emotional weight, LYISHATFIW packs a productive punch, with forays into cutting trap beats, and as many turns into acoustic singer-songwriting. This stylistic duality has been a trademark of West's artistry since he began in 2017.
This is evident in "hey." Woefully scorning the listener over soft piano, he delves into that unique feeling of doing the right thing, while still hurting someone in the process.
In West's words:
"While I was making this album I had a lot of it on repeat in my car, on my runs, at the bins, or anywhere else I was. If five people who aren't me hear this, I am still going to listen to it a lot. It is a time capsule of a tumultuous and beautifully transformative period in my life, and thankfully I like how it sounds too. I am sorry the mixing isn't professionally done, but maybe the soft-hearted out there can find a place in their heart to give a pass to a guy who has something to say, but isn't a technical professional (yet)"
As he says in the intro "don't think that I am far from regretting superstardom"
West has been making beats, rapping over ukuleles and guitars, and writing stupid wordplay since he was fourteen.
