Davit Melkonyan

Davit Melkonyan is a young Armenian jazz saxophonist and composer, striving for the idealistic goal of creating a piece of an absolute synthesis of academic jazz music and experimentation influenced by the genres of the present. Melkonyan is one of the most well known musicians in Armenia and is part of Armenian State Jazz Orchestra as solo sax and <a href="spotify:artist:2JUbVe2NvK7mNHtqZzk5Kg" data-name="MVF Band">MVF Band</a> - a folk jazz ensemble. He also has a PhD in art history. After many years of working with different bands and orchestras he has started his solo act with the singles <a href="spotify:album:723jPlJvzMUmu770O2BB6v" data-name="Private Story">Private Story</a> and <a href="spotify:album:4Ae5XaxQ9lkV87nUFAzML3" data-name="Personal Opinion">Personal Opinion</a>, where he mixes the traditional elements of jazz, the blend of modern genres and a touch of personal experiences.

Twenty years old Davit Melkonyan was given the first prize by the jury led by <a href="spotify:artist:689eEALM4OBsB44nO94jnI" data-name="Igor Butman">Igor Butman</a> at the International Contest of Young Jazz Performers 2012. Festivals include Yerevan Jazz festival (2015-2020), Koktebel Jazz Festival (2018), Smithsonian Folklife Festival (2018) and Made in New-York jazz competition (2014).
