Dawn People

Recalling the intrepid sample-driven pop made by artists such as <a href="spotify:artist:3vbKDsSS70ZX9D2OcvbZmS">Beck</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:2vJObElaIZWYDLpiXiJMo9">Cornelius</a> during the '90s, the music produced by New York-based duo Dawn People is a thick, hazy collage of funky breakbeats, grainy tape loops, and live instrumentation. The project was founded in 2016 by <a href="spotify:artist:6uspcDPRd0OaEn6poKwMXC">Nick Forté</a> and Peter Negroponte, both of whom are veterans of several experimental, electronic, and indie music scenes. Among other projects, <a href="spotify:artist:6uspcDPRd0OaEn6poKwMXC">Forté</a> released glitch/IDM on labels like <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Schematic%22">Schematic</a> and <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Sublight%22">Sublight</a> and performed in post-punk and hardcore bands like <a href="spotify:artist:7wPgvPQ62R5GVB5zeO9UNt">Computer Cougar</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:7st6kYFePugdzAT0ZLPztH">Raspberry Bulbs</a>, as well as the experimental group <a href="spotify:artist:5eHcWD0PLT5mPTyfm1bxL2">Christmas Decorations</a>, and Negroponte founded the acclaimed no wave punk-funk group <a href="spotify:artist:2PlLrStX2yK6CzyRi3TKnO">Guerilla Toss</a>, in addition to releasing solo material as Do Pas O. Dawn People's debut full-length, The Star Is Your Future, was recorded by <a href="spotify:artist:6uspcDPRd0OaEn6poKwMXC">Forté</a> and Negroponte along with engineer Josh Druckman and mixer Abe Seiferth, and <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22DFA%22">DFA</a> released it in November of 2017. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
