Deby Medrez , also known as “Ziburta” is a Mexican contralto singer and composer of folk, rock, jazz and cinematic music. She began her life as a singer on the stages of New York, Mexico and Israel presenting jazz, klezmer, indie, rock, cabaret and german expressionist repertoires. Soon enough her own compositions began to be presented on those stages. Her compositions were firstly inspired by her Literature Studies in New York and then progressed to her particular confesional crude style where she incorporated Folk, Jazz and Progressive sounds. Now Deby lives in Mexico City where she is dedicating herself to her solo project under her own name “Deby Medrez Pier”. She is now being represented by Warner Chappell and is currently releasing singles from her first recorded work— a 4 track EP in Spanish under the name of “El Fin”.
Her performances vary in style depending on the stage where she presents her solo project— from a full Rock-Folk band show to an intimate Jazz-Blues session.
