Welcome to world of Dede Speaks. Dede Speaks is a Ghanaian female recording artist. With roots in spoken word and poetry, Dede sound is defined as a unique blend of afrobeat, hip-hop, and blues. Influenced by her Ghanaian heritage and up bring in the United States, Dede provides an eccentric blend of cultures and stories throughout her works.Dede labels her music under the genre of Afro-fusion. She defines her sound as inspiration from the diaspora mixed with other influences. Dede released her first EP entitled “Tribal Marks,” in March of 2021. Dede describes this project as a mark of identification. She shares, “I drew on my experiences with my tribe and the people closest to me to create an EP that sheds light on who I am, what I want, how I feel at this moment, and who I am becoming."
Tribal Marks explores topics such as identity, insecurity, and rejection. This Ep captures the lived realities associated with these topics. These are very familiar topics that everyone struggles with brought to light in a unique blend of afro and hip-hop sounds.Tribal Marks are used in many cultures as a sign of identification as well as an indicator of which tribe a person belongs. A person's tribe speaks to their culture, morals, and values. A tribe can be identified as a group of people that all share a common ancestor and/or common culture.
