Deep Sky Ocean (DSO) is a creative four-piece created in Chicago in 2024. Founded by guitarist Ryan Lee, who, while attending the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), gathered together three of his long-time friends, Danny Mahlke (guitar/vocals), Justin Padilla (drums), and Santi Acuña (bass), who possessed the innate musical and artistic talent required to form a band that writes and records original music. Their original music is inspired by death metal, shoegaze and everything in between as well as incorporating cultural influences from Spain, Brazil, Russia, and the Middle East. The band is known for its technical instrumental ability and complex compositions. Their lyrics, written by Acuña and Mahlke, draw upon their shared passion for introspective thought and self-expression. DSO’s interest for conceptual storytelling shines within their work though thrashing thrash metal highs and atmospheric indie lows, swelling the emotions of listeners.

DSO stands for a movement that encompasses performers and their audience to experience the joy of music. They believe that we are all somewhere scattered deep between the sky and ocean, so they invite you to come experience with them.
