Defy Theory is a rock band from Johannesburg, South Africa. The band was formed in 2013 and consists of members, Gareth Cairncross on lead vocals and keyboard, Daniel Bronkhorst & Christopher Palmer on guitars, Renier Lillie on drums and Justin Visagie on the bass guitar.
The band's sound experiments with a mix of alternative, hard rock and rock with elements of rap vocals. Drawing influence from bands such as <a href="spotify:artist:12Chz98pHFMPJEknJQMWvI" data-name="Muse">Muse</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2OMjeKZFgRSOJzJnM1umNu" data-name="Gangs of Ballet">Gangs of Ballet</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6XyY86QOPPrYVGvF9ch6wz" data-name="Linkin Park">Linkin Park</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:4DWX7u8BV0vZIQSpJQQDWU" data-name="Alter Bridge">Alter Bridge</a> among others.
They recorded their debut album "Impossible/Plausible/Sensible" and their singles "Whispers" & "Black & Blue" with Clinton Watts of Watts Audio Recording Studio.
All their music is available for download/streaming on all major online stores.
In July 2019 they toured the UK. Playing shows at The Station in Cannock and the annual Warton Music Festival in Tamworth to name a few.
They have performed at many live music venues in and around the Gauteng area, such as Sundowners, Hard Rock Cafe, The Goodluck Bar, Aandklas Hatfield and SinkShack to name a few. In May 2018 they opened for Fokofpolisiekar at the annual Alberton Day Music Festival, whom they also shared a stage with Hillcrest Quarry in Cape Town.
Defy Theory are a hard working alternative rock outfit and what’s more they are great performers, so crowds can always expect high energy sets with a great vibe.
