DEITY
The shadow-born alter ego of Dylan Wade Elijah Gibson, known to many simply as Elijah.
Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick in 1996, Elijah’s life was steeped in music from the start. His mother, Hayley Schumacher, fronted the 90s rock band Darwin’s Engine, while his uncle Austin Schumacher played guitar. Growing up surrounded by the energy of live performance, Elijah developed a passion for raw, piercing vocals—eventually mastering a six-octave range that would become his signature.
He cut his teeth in the underground scene, performing with metal and punk bands like Revenge & Retaliation, Semblance, and April May Fall. But behind the stage lights, chaos brewed. Drug use and inner-band turmoil tore his early projects apart, pushing him into a spiral of depression and addiction that consumed his early twenties.
What kept him alive was the pen. In his darkest moments, Elijah poured everything into his notebook—his pain, his anger, his truth. Years later, he emerged sober, sharpened, and reborn through his project Obligated To Succeed.
Now, three years clean, DEITY channels every shadow he’s faced into his music—blending aggression with vulnerability, darkness with redemption. His art is a reminder that even in the deepest night, there’s still a spark worth fighting for.
DEITY is not just an artist. He’s a movement.
We are Obligated To Succeed.
Failure isn’t an option.
