Delphinium

Delphinium is an indie electronic pop trio from Bakersfield, CA. Members of the band are singer-songwriters Amber Michelle and Alicia Tello and multi-instrumentalist and singer, Rebecca Spickler. The group came together when Amber noticed there was a serious lack of female and LGBTQ+ representation in the Bakersfield music scene. In September, 2019, she set out to find like-minded friends who felt the same way. By January, 2020, this femme queer/cis blended super-group had officially formed. Their first single, “Crave,” produced by Amber Michelle and local musician Gary Rink, has been streaming on all streaming platforms since February 14, 2021. The band also recently signed with local record label, Killer Kern Records, and is set to release a vinyl EP.


When listening to Delphinium, the first thing you will note about the band is that it is very vocally driven, often exhibiting 3-part harmonies and multiple vocal parts. The music ranges from more alternative 90’s rock sounds akin to a modern-day “Cranberries” vibe to melodic blend of folk meets old ‘00s indie “Sleater-Kinney” vibe with some electronic drums and funky synth patches thrown in for good measure. Some other cumulative influences you may hear when listening to the band are “Radiohead” and “Fiona Apple.”
