Comprised of Nat Johnson, Dave Gulick, and Isaac Frost, Derby formed in Portland, OR, in the early 2000s. The trio's first full-length, This Is the New You, was released on Roslyn Records in 2005; the album showcased the band's bright-eyed, innocent indie pop sound, one that nodded to influences like Nada Surf and Sloan. Derby toured in support of the album over the course of the following year, opening for wide-ranging, well-established indie and alt-rock acts like Robyn Hitchcock, the Decemberists, Imperial Teen, and Badly Drawn Boy. The band returned to the studio in early 2007, and its sophomore effort, Posters Fade, was released on Green Submarine in the early summer of 2008. ~ TiVo Staff, Rovi
