Derek Swain has been “at” the music business for a long time.
A music publisher in the late 90's early 2000's representing a number of country, fiddle, folk and relaxation music artists worldwide. That stint ended in the mid 2000's.
As a singer songwriter, his career goes a little further back than that, starting in the late 80's.
Always acoustic based country/folk songs (americana/ canadiana) that pull at your heartstrings. Dereks songs will make you laugh, cry , smile or just plain feel good, and will probably make you want to hug someone you love.
Dereks last album “simple things” was released in 1998 under his own label Shaggy Mane Music garnering airplay and sales worldwide.
Described as “Cleanly executed folk pop features lots of shimmering acoustic guitar playing and pretty pedal steel filigrees. From and artist who may be the flesh-and-blood realization of a Dan Fogleberg/James Taylor genetic accident.”
After entering the studio once again to record some new material, a group of songs came to the forefront as a collective cohesive unit of songs that were just begging to be released. As the new album is being recorded we decided to release this package.
With that, we are proud to present to you the album titled better days. Solo acoustic and vocals, in true singer songwriter fashion.
With Derek, what you see, is what you get. Live or in studio, truth and honesty remain.
Influences include: John Prine, Neil Young, James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, Leonard Cohen
