Desert is the artistic project of Cristina Checa (producer, composer, vocalist) and Eloi Caballé (producer, composer, and sound designer).
Dream pop, electronic indie, synth wave-- Desert’s booming yet melancholic sound is not easy to label or squeeze into a single genre and they like it that way. Based in Barcelona, Cristina Checa’s radient, otherworldly voice pierces through songs in her native language of Catalan, adding to the music’s uniqueness. It is easy to sense the musical influences of Laurel Halo, the sound 4AD from the Cocteau Twins, Insides, Little Dragon, Dean Blunt, Kate Bush, Julia Holter or even Grimes, but this only serves as a first impression to the complexity of their sound.
