Chicago has produced some of the innovative minds hip-hop has seen over the past decade, and Devin is looking to become one of the first names of the new one. The twenty-three-year-old emcee grew up surrounded by jazz music and 1970s soul provided by the likes of Earth, Wind, and Fire and Whispers, among others. However, in his teenage years, he became immersed in the budding scene that featured everything from the drill movement of Chief Keef and melodic jazz-rap popularized by artists like Chance the Rapper. Devin does not see a divide in his own music though and instead actively blends the two worlds together to create a sound that is equal parts unique and stylish with a Chicago flair. After taking a brief hiatus, he is back with the release of his debut single “Level,” which combines the industrial production of the drill musings of old with the cadence and flow of the lyrical greats to emerge from the city. As the summer heats up, Devin is ready to rise as the top dog in one of the largest packs in hip-hop!
