Digital death is a now retired ambient side project from electronic producer Sundownn, which has 4 officially released albums.
The first album being a self titled, was made in 24 hours on Sundownn’s birthday with other producer Kingximo. This collab album is most well known for the song “Poppin”, as it is the most streamed Sundownn song to date.
The next three albums are part of a trilogy called smile, which ditched the 8-bit vibe in favor of a new ambient direction. The first smile album, titled “Smile: downfall” starts the series with a scary vibe. Using cassette filters and distortion over 8-bit nostalgic instrumentals to create a very weird vibe. This album also was worked on by Kingximo and Atmospheric Daft.
The second album titled “Smile two: Further down” leaned even further into the ambience the smile series is known for. This album is also co produced by Atmospheric Daft, with him working on songs like luv, forme, night, mad, and untitled. This album also sparks a series of collabs between sun and Ordion Azureim, on the song believer. This album also features Mason Ehret (or madoly) who is a close friend of sundownn who appears as a guitarist throughout smile.
Finally, the album “smile 3: finale”releases after a demo album. This album finishes the trilogy, with a more refined overall product that leans more into complex instrumentation. This album featured Daft, Kingximo, mason, and ordion. And is the final digital death release as the project is now done.
