Dimitri & The Scarecrow is an Alternative Hip-Hop concept developed by Zimbabwean Dimitri D. Kwenda (Emcee, songwriter, singer and producer), active since 2012 in Harare, Zimbabwe and has been living in different countries since 2016. It idealises the Scarecrow as a metaphor inspired by the agrarian reform system implemented in Zimbabwe (Africa) as a utility to summarize the people in juxtaposition to governance and institutions. Employing poetry, satire and humourist styles, Dimitri addresses social matters as an observer, victim, idealist, realist, critic & the privileged. At any point, Dimitri can assume the role of perspective as himself or as the Scarecrow, allowing exploration from varying depths in spectrum. The composition of the music defining Dimitri & The Scarecrow is inspired by live instrumentation evoking rhythmic familiarity, whilst neglecting the ease of simplicity. Taking the approach of self-defining, Dimitri opted to produce all his music to set a precedent to distinguish himself (self-taught after having learnt music theory and played at Prince Edward School, Zimbabwe). The projects, "Messenger is Sender the E.P" (2015) and album "Crass Roots Rap" (2020) have a intricate and at times complex melodic tones accompanied with a measured delivery and plenty of harmonies. The artist maintains a stoic dedication to the artistry of poetry, paired with melody and confronts the confounding principles of comfort with complex articulate rhyme pattern.
