Disastronaut is a band of Michigan natives Daniel Hooper, Matt Hayes and Matt Noveskey.
The members played in a band called Switch during the late 1990’s, until they stopped due
to Noveskey joining a signed band and relocating to Austin. The three stayed connected
over the years and anticipated one day collaborating again as band members. In 2022
during one of their quarterly check ins, Noveskey demanded he and Hooper set a date for
studio time at Orb to write. Shortly after, Hooper went to Austin where he and Noveskey
recorded demos of a few songs that Hooper had written that he and Noveskey reworked.
The effort came easy. The chemistry to create was still there. The more they worked, the
more they wanted to involve Hayes. The next time Hooper traveled to Austin, Hayes would
join. By the time the two left Texas they had several songs tracked and called the project
Disastronaut.
In 2023 and 2024 Hayes and Hooper would return to Orb to continue recording
Disastronaut’s debut EP where it was clear no time had been lost in their years apart.
Stylistically, they took a very minimal and intentional approach to the production, each
carving their own unique touch to the collection as a whole. Disastronaut plans to continue
to make frequent trips between Texas and Michigan to continue creating more music with
the goal of eventually bringing their songs to a live audience.
