Distant Brother is a New Jersey rock band consisting of brothers Joe and Jon Lange, supported by a cast of expert musicians, that produce an eclectic collection of music in every album.
Influenced by progressive rock giants like Dream Theater and Genesis (with Peter Gabriel), Distant Brother formed to create their 2012 debut album, American Heroes, with guitarist and songwriter, John Veneziano, who is considered one of the founding members. American Heroes put the band’s sense of humor and musical stylishness on display with tracks like Evil Knievel and Charlie’s BBQ.
Their second album, release in 2017, Truth or Fair, explored the band’s various musical influences from Progressive rock to funk.
Tragically, John Veneziano died in 2017 leaving the brothers to decide if they were going to continue on or not without their dear friend. Ultimately, the tragedy bred inspiration for Joe as he began writing their third album, Die this Way, released in 2019, as a tribute to their lost friend. Joe and Jon brought in other musicians to round out the dynamics of the album, resulting in a diverse sound that boosted the band’s evolution.
Their newest album, Breathe, is a continuation of Die this Way, utilizing multiple musicians to bolster Joe’s songwriting to create a compilation of songs that expresses hope despite the struggles we all face in the current environment. Pieces of You shows us how conflict breeds art, while the title track is a plea to live.
