Miraculously a mermaid spots you laying motionless on a rock. Intrigued she swims your direction…. she gives you nourishment and bandages your wounds with kelp.
After a months long, arduous journey, the realization creeps in. You’re on a beach. Dry land! But, you may never see her again. She’s grown worn and tired from carrying your limp body for so long. Melancholy fills the both of you. It’s time for her to go home. One last embrace.
You watch as she turns, no goodbyes are exchanged. There’s simply nothing to be said. Bewildered by her elegant shimmer, you watch her dive under each oncoming wave. You desperately shout, “Thank you!! I’ll nev..” it’s too late. She’s past the drop off. Down she goes, expertly diving home. You chuckle quietly. She’s a better diver than you’ll ever be.
