Last updated: 2 hours ago

Raised in the Midwest, Dix Bruce took up the guitar at the age of 12. After college, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he began working in David Grisman's band and, from 1978 to 1984, co-edited the magazine Mandolin World News with Grisman. Also in 1978, Bruce founded the band Back Up & Push, featured on his album Tuxedo Blues. In addition to frequent session work, he finished a second album, My Folk Heart and contributed original music to the film documentary Wild Wheels. And he has published numerous instructional books, tapes, and videos through Mel Bay Publications. Bruce is also part of a guitar duo with Jim Nunally that has resulted in the albums From Fathers to Sons, The Way Things Are, In My Beautiful Dream, and 2003's Brothers at Heart. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
