Just one month on from the launch of their brand-new label, X-AMNT, Bristol bass music lynchpins Bunjy and Kickback are back with its second release: a three-track remix EP from the world-renowned West Country ‘street soul’ ouKit Laid Blak. “Mic Man” (featuring Tita Lau), first released via Sugar Shack Records in 2018 as part of the group’s stellar sophomore album About Time, has proven itself to be a firm fan favourite, so the X-AMNT head honchos themselves have given the track a vibrant jungle makeover, also calling upon fellow Bristolian drum and bass stalwart Subcriminal to provide a darker spin on the track.
As a founding member of Laid Blak and a co-producer of the original song, Bunjy is uniquely qualified to take on the reggae-\nged anthem. Teaming up with fellow label boss Kickback, the pair retain the track’s iconic ska strokes and dubwise rhythms, pushing up the tempo and adding resonant basslines and shuffling breaks to stay as true to the original mix as possible while providing subtle twists which will appeal to junglists and reggae fans alike. Two versions of the track are available on the release, with both an extended remix and a shorter radio edit
