A co-founder of outsider house label White Material, DJ Richard received much acclaim for his tense, somewhat bleak take on ambient techno and house. Originally from Rhode Island, he started out as part of the Providence noise scene before getting into dance music. Along with Rhode Island School of Design classmate Quinn Taylor (Young Male), Richard moved to New York City and formed the White Material collective, which also included Galcher Lustwerk. Richard's debut 12", Leech2, was among the label's first releases in 2012, followed by Nailed to the Floor in 2014. Both releases quickly sold out of their initial pressings and earned accolades from the underground club scene. In 2015, Richard (who had relocated to Berlin) signed to well-regarded German techno label Dial and released his full-length debut, Grind, which received positive reviews from publications such as Pitchfork and FACT. Following the 2017 EP Path of Ruin, Richard released his sophomore album, Dies Aræ Xerox, in 2018. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
