DJ Root

DJ Root is a DJ and producer for SD State of Mind, a platform spotlighting the music, art, food, activities, attractions and local businesses that make San Diego 'America's Finest City'. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Root moved out to the west coast in 2005 and has proudly represented both San Diego and his hometown of Detroit ever since. Root made his DJ debut in 2011, originally under the DJ name Black Jesus and studying under the instruction of No Sucker DJs founder and Deep Rooted member DJ Artistic. DJ Root is also the co-founder of San Diego’s Battle Bot, a monthly event that has showcased San Diego’s B-Boy/B-Girl community as well as the numerous DJs, producers, and emcees that comprise San Diego’s eclectic local Hip-Hop scene since 2014. DJ Root is also an accomplished producer and has contributed production for a wide arrange of artists from San Diego and beyond. Some artist Root has worked alongside and produced for include Blame One, Indigenous Cats, KnewBalance, Real J. Wallace, Ric Scales, as well as serving as the in-house DJ/producer for local duo DreCat & Cali The Dreamer. DJ Root is currently a member of the No Sucker DJ’s, Good Vibe SD and San Diego Best DJ’s collectives where you can regularly catch him spinning at concerts, dance parties, weddings and working as one of San Diego Hip-Hop’s most dedicated and tireless advocates.
