“When I was (about) 4 years old, I saw what I can best describe as a magical creature in a shop window. It was small and unthreatening – curled up like a dog. It looked like a baby dragon. I didn't think about it again until years later, by which time I’d learned to believe it was just my imagination. Was it? Or do we learn to not see?”
The confusing process of growing up is a theme that runs through DK1’s new album ‘Scared of Sharks’ and is perfectly captured in the lead single ‘The Monster Under My Bed’ – an infectiously catchy track with a dark underside, infused with DK1’s typically though provoking lyrics and wry observations.
Through a range of musical styles, DK1 takes us on a journey from the joys of childhood imagination (Scared of Sharks) to carefree, early years of adulthood (Single Bed for Two) to more challenging, ‘grown up’ themes (Atonement, Feed the Wolves). The albums is both personal (Replacing the Dream) and universal (Dunkirk) - 10 tracks all expressed through unique, atmospheric arrangements and storytelling lyrics.
Hailing from Hertfordshire, England, DK1 is also part of the electronica duo Moonshot and regularly collaborates with F&G Records label mates: Scottish Force, db and Crimson Death. Aside from being a musician, he is also a counsellor and psychosexual therapist. A prolific songwriter, he has an extensive back catalogue and has released several other albums through F&G Records.
