Raised in Monterey Park, California by Chinese immigrants, Dojo’s love for music stemmed from his father’s passion for classical music. Dojo began playing piano at the age of 5. In middle school he underwent an alternative rock and metal phase which eventually evolved into EDM, house and ultimately hip hop.
His sound incorporates features from each of those genres. As a result, he doesn’t categorize his work under a specific genre, but his music is a reflection of his jovial and goofy self. Dojo tends to lean towards high-energy tracks that offer a space for listeners to loosen up and dance with a smile.
