Dominic has remained a regular figure on the Birmingham UK music scene since the early 1980’s when his band The Boatyman hit the road running with overwhelming enthusiasm from critics, music fans and local radio. Their infectious melodies and heart aching lyrics quickly earned them comparisons to <a href="spotify:artist:6Jrj26oAY96EEC2lqC6fua" data-name="Squeeze">Squeeze</a> <a href="spotify:artist:3WrFJ7ztbogyGnTHbHJFl2" data-name="The Beatles">The Beatles</a> <a href="spotify:artist:2BGRfQgtzikz1pzAD0kaEn" data-name="Elvis Costello">Elvis Costello</a> . One notable fan at the time was <a href="spotify:artist:5vIOGcdmx1eIkq3ZtuS12U" data-name="Ocean Colour Scene">Ocean Colour Scene</a> 's Steve Cradock.
Despite a lucrative publishing deal with Virgin, The Boatyman eventually split in 1991 and Dominic joined local Indie hero’s Rumblefish. After a couple of deals with WEA and Island records Rumblefish and their ‘Art Pop’ reincarnation Low Art Thrill
proved popular with BBC and US college radio until eventually disbanding in 1999.
Since then Dominic has written and performed as an independent
Singer Songwriter opening for many acts including <a href="spotify:artist:2ysnwxxNtSgbb9t1m2Ur4j" data-name="George Ezra">George Ezra</a> J.P. Cooper, Mike and The Mechanics, <a href="spotify:artist:2DmyIp3IBWUwRukba22G3n" data-name="Nick Heyward">Nick Heyward</a> Sharon Corr, Roachford, <a href="spotify:artist:79bvE4uUR2P7AqHm2SmR8e" data-name="Boo Hewerdine">Boo Hewerdine</a> Ian McNabb, David McAlmont and Pete Wylie. He has collaborated with Ed Sheeran's co- writer <a href="spotify:artist:0Zh5nyS0km753bfcX4QGHp" data-name="Amy Wadge">Amy Wadge</a> , <a href="spotify:artist:1cMcFL2NdeUDYg0OtD1GeA" data-name="The Lilac Time">The Lilac Time</a> 's <a href="spotify:artist:2G5cWvHkX9WSrGv6OnmpWD" data-name="Stephen Duffy">Stephen Duffy</a> and Motown legend Edwin Star. In 2019 an old Boatyman song “Baby Blue” was recorded by Soul legend P.P. Arnold for her album 'The New Adventures of P.P. Arnold'.
Dominic's solo recordings were previously only available on C.D. for sale at concerts or from his website. Now keen to reach a wider audience he's releasing singles via online distribution and streaming services.
