Don Brownrigg is a poor man’s polymath, with an unquenchable curiosity about the world and its workings, and a poet’s attention to the details and meanings of those workings. His albums Wander Songs, It Takes All Kinds (to make this world, I find) and Fireworks offer heartfelt, atmospheric, moody songs that showcase his smooth baritone, bug-in-your-brain melodies, and evocative lyrics that let listeners find a little something of themselves, despite the personal seed from which they might spring. Born and raised in Codroy Valley, Newfoundland, and a resident of Halifax, Nova Scotia for the last decade or more, Brownrigg is often between worlds—not quite folk, never quite as comfortable offstage as on, always letting his focus be pulled by the next fascinating thing—but that just gives him a unique perspective from which to observe, experience, and ultimately write. Fireworks is produced by Daniel Ledwell, and features Kinley Dowling on strings and Tom Terrell on drums.
