Though Tinsley’s chiming guitars and soaring pop hooks captured the essence of his Southern rock roots and 70s heyday, his body of work nearly faded into obscurity—like a wind-blown newspaper disappearing down a quiet street. But thanks to a concerted effort, Tinsley’s legacy is now being resurrected, with plans for a retrospective album that will finally allow his remarkable talent to be put on full display.
A veteran of more than 50 bands since his teenage years in the 1960s—including notable groups like Dogwood, The Mortals, and The Primitons—Tinsley hailed from a musical family in Montevallo, AL. "My grandfather and his siblings played in a jazz orchestra in the ‘30s, and my uncle composed and arranged music," Tinsley once recalled. Inspired by his family, he picked up a bass at a young age, mastering it by the time he was 14 and playing session gigs soon after.
