Singer, Donovan Pinnock is from the district of Victoria Town, parish of Manchester, and migrated to New York City in 1988 where he is still currently based. The singer started singing in churches in Victoria Town at the tender age of approximately 6 years old and was drawn to reggae music by the soulful songs of Dennis Brown and Delroy Wilson.
His first recording for producer Harry J was in 1986. The song titled, “Story Comes to Bump”, interestingly enough, was never released. After becoming a New York-based artist, his first song “Twilight Zone” was produced and released by the late great, Jah C along with several other songs.
In addition, he also did recordings for other New York producers like Phillip Smart, Shelly/Super Power, Lloyd Campbell, Jah Live, Don One, and Jamaican producer King Jammys. He also worked with Dub Vendor of England who produced one of his most successful tracks, “Prophecy is Revealing”.
Dona-V's first album titled, “Cry for Tomorrow”, released in 1999 on the Studio 1 label, was one of the last albums produced by the late greatest Sir Coxsone Dodd before he died.
The singer recently released two new tracks "Should I" and "It’s Never Over ’Til It’s Over”.
Being a die-hearted fan of Dennis Brown, Dona-V wanted to do a cover version of his classic “Should I”. The two tracks are currently out on all streaming platforms.
