The first artist to appear because of Ice-T’s contract between the Rhyme Syndicate and Epic Records, Donald D’s influence in the 90s was marginal. His anti-drugs stance was hammered home on his debut release, ‘FBI (Free Base Institute)’ although he showed a lack of sensitivity elsewhere on his debut album on tracks such as ‘Just Suck’, which gloried in the Rhyme Syndicate’s gangbanging activities. Although he moved to the west coast, Donald D’s roots were in the Bronx. He met Ice-T in 1985 when he was visiting California with Notorious’ eventual co-producer, Afrika Islam.
