Donna has spent most of her musical years in Chicago, soaking up the ever-present influences of Steve Goodman and John Prine, but while growing up in Park Forest, IL, she listened to her musical heroes of 70’s ( Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, James Taylor , Joni Mitchell and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. She harmonized with her brother and sister to the songs of the 70’s while her brother played guitar.
Donna has worn a few musical hats, playing in John Kimsey’s rock band The Art Thieves in the 90’s, writing songs for Green Light Performing Company (a children’s educational dance company), as the sound designer for a Paula Kamen play, and the voice of a “Little Lotto” radio jingle, but she feels most at home singing & playing guitar to audiences. She has a knack for writing catchy melodies with short-story-like lyrics, with a country-folk style, and vocals similar to her heroes, Emmlylou Harris, Judy Collins or Karen Carpenter.
Donna has lent harmonies and shared stages with Buddy Mondlock, Chris Farrell, Mark Dvorak, & the late Tom Dundee. She recently Donna teamed up with her old bandmate John Kimsey, along with Eric Chial and Decoy Prayer Meeting at Montrose Saloon, for the recreation of the album “The Gilded Palace of Sin” singing Gram Parsons/Emmylou Harris duets.
