Donovan Hikaru is an alias of music producer/composer David Jackman (Peachcake, California World, PRMR, David Ben Jack) out of Phoenix, AZ. An experimental electronic project, Hikaru's sound ranges from chilled downtempo and airy smooth jazz to (recently) his own quirky brand of dance pop.

He helped shape the sound of 2010's internet music micro-genre "Midijams" aka "Virtual Utopian" with his penchant for capturing the essence of 80s/90s corporate muzak through strictly sample-free original compositions. Hikaru drifted from his ultra-playful early body of work toward a darker, moodier sound in 2015.

Donovan Hikaru collaborated with Eyeliner to compose the original score for Apple Store-charting / Game of the Day and Webby Award-nominated iOS game Marbloid in 2019, which also spawned an OST release. In 2022, Hikaru rebranded to explore new ground with a sound he coined as "Business Travel Beat" and announced a single slated for March.

His music has been featured on KCRW, mentioned on Bandcamp Daily, and referenced in The Bloomsbury Handbook of the Anthropology of Sound as well as Brooklyn's New School Free Press.
