From 2001 to 2003 the South Bend, Indiana music collective known as <a href="spotify:artist:0HOEbMzzmJQ72s8Y3EpFzI" data-name="Don't Shoot...I'm With God">Don't Shoot...I'm With God</a> (or DSIWG, for brevity’s sake) ascended; a Phoenix, from the ash of a few lauded, local bands (Blue Owl Circus, Slater, and Blender)
Raw-yet-oddly-mesmerizing; they were the funky-bastard-step-child of the South Bend Punk Rock/ DIY scene.
DSIWG took cues (and ran off the reservation) from a wide array: <a href="spotify:artist:2NOhotupwYbKRNJF7LMDPG" data-name="The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion">The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion</a>,
<a href="spotify:artist:5E2rtn57BM2WPjwak4kGd5" data-name="At The Drive In">At The Drive In</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1YFIyRFTa7povIpq08DcCA" data-name="Trans Am">Trans Am</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3WrFJ7ztbogyGnTHbHJFl2" data-name="The Beatles">The Beatles</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:49xcIDVId0Sp8C7GQFtJJj" data-name="Anal Cunt">Anal Cunt</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5XvxZQicSAiQtsXZ4lXWDo" data-name="Danielson">Danielson</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6KO6G41BBLTDNYOLefWTMU" data-name="P.O.D.">P.O.D.</a>
Live shows included multi-media elements; spontaneous-dancing; harrowing emotional gusto; to see them live was a rapturous experience.
DSIWG’s Sound? Funk infused, BIG MUFF’d-bass riffs; death metal screeching, Holy Ghost chanting, and emo-core chorus vocals; progressive drumbeats; weird tape loops; keyboard noodling (with out a single six-string guitar in sight!).
DSIWG played with many Post-Hardcore greats: <a href="spotify:artist:55b0Gfm53udtGBs8mmNXrH" data-name="Norma Jean">Norma Jean</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1Enp9WKfk0aI9CFi2YGBq7" data-name="Further Seems Forever">Further Seems Forever</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4wlNIqMnqGY8g2lcFTkzsY" data-name="Brandtson">Brandtson</a>, & <a href="spotify:artist:6pndtpE63q5pHaGhDkoTue" data-name="Element 101">Element 101</a>. DSIWG had the honor of opening for legendary <a href="spotify:artist:3dnH7fdVm2X07MK6Fkbhbt" data-name="Gwar">Gwar</a> founder Dave Brockie (RIP) in his side project <a href="spotify:artist:1siVccYZR8N2O4mEZflCpC" data-name="Dave Brockie Experience">Dave Brockie Experience</a>.
