DOOPEES is a conceptual pop project by sound artist Yann Tomita. Blending pitch-shifted vocals (later revealed as Yumiko Ohno of Buffalo Daughter), adventurous sampling, lounge aesthetics, and musique concrète, DOOPEES reimagines what pop music can be. Their album “Doopee Time” gently follows Caroline and her friend Suzi through a bright yet bittersweet journey—from heartbreak and illness to a dreamlike voyage toward the edge of the world. Long regarded as a “secret masterpiece” of Shibuya-kei and experimental pop, DOOPEES returns in 2025 with the first streaming release of “DOITS!” A new generation—especially Gen Z in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.—is now rediscovering DOOPEES as a formative influence on Hyperpop, Bedroom Pop, and Neo-Shibuya-kei.
