Double Dare formed around 1985 in Canada as a duo effort between guitarist Andy McLean and vocalist Wendy Lands. McLean, originally from England, spent the first half of the '80s working with a group called the Tenants. When the band met its end in November of 1984, McLean soon formed a friendship with Lands, who was doing both vocal work and acting at the time. Together, the pair became Double Dare, and began writing some new songs and making a few demos with the hope of drawing attention from a big label.

By 1986, the duo was under contract with Polygram Records. The result was a self-titled debut album. The only tune that received much positive press was the single "Date With the Past." A sophomore offering never appeared. McLean moved off-stage and went to work with Intrepid Records until its folding. Lands gave up the music world completely -- at least for a decade. In 1997, she once more stepped into the recording studio, this time to give a solo career a try. Her debut album was titled Angels and Ordinary Men. ~ Charlotte Dillon, Rovi
