Double Double is, at its heart, the sound of friendship. Neil Douglas Fraser and Landon Turlock first met in 2008 during junior high in rural Alberta. Fraser played drums, Turlock played lead guitar at the time, and the pair bonded over a mutual love of pop-punk and classic rock. After a few attempts at starting bands, the two settled into a fast friendship. However, it wasn't until a few years after graduation that Double Double's folk blend began to brew.
Having switched to vocals and acoustic guitar, Fraser started presenting Turlock with song ideas after weekend brunches in Edmonton. When Turlock lent some arrangement ideas and countermelodies to Fraser's energetic, soulful songs, the pair adopted the name Double Double and crafted the music that eventually appeared on their self-produced EP, 2017's Tag Along.
2019 saw the release of a new single, "Yellowknife." Recorded at Royal Studios with Arnel Ethier (Evergreen), the track has received Edmonton and Yellowknife radio play and over 30 000 streams across various platforms.
The folk duo recently expanded their line-up to include long-time collaborators Christina Kruszewski and Jessamy Vegter, filling out their live and studio sound with three-part harmony, gentle keys, ukulele, and driving rhythms.
The fall of 2021 will bring listeners Hometown, Double Double's second EP. The four tracks are a homage to the music and places that raised the band.
