Hi! I'm a singer-songwriter. I was born in Liège, Belgium. I spent a big part of my young life in England, where I lived in Brighton for 7 years, a city that quickly became 'my happy place.' Although I am now fully fluent in English, sharing my life between Belgium and England, I still remember times in high school when teachers would often tell me that languages were not 'my biggest strength'... but if you can dream it, you can do it!
I chose Dounia Rose as my artist name in reference to one of my paintings. I was bedridden by Lyme disease. For over a year, I couldn't walk. I created a self-portrait where my paralysed knees were replaced by roses.
I’d describe my music as “Open-hearted” Pop Soul. My love for the piano is at the core of my creative process. I always call it my "magical instrument" because it helps me transform my poems into melodies and then into songs. My songs are infused with a certain nostalgia, making each note and word resonate like a living memory. A bit like a journey through time.
