Taking a lo-fi approach to dream pop and indie rock, <a href="spotify:artist:0AFGPuSQHul71WUKnoUUhy" data-name="Dreams on Tape">Dreams on Tape</a> evokes strong feelings of nostalgia with their music. The project started in 2020 when founder Jake Benfant was feeling inspired after watching a documentary on the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival. A late night recording session led to what would eventually become the projects aptly named debut EP, <a href="spotify:track:2XFqq0GTI3QySRdN6wJuse" data-name="Nostalgia">Nostalgia</a>. Headlined by lead single <a href="spotify:track:3SxSziEQMLH6Ds8KgEgAgv" data-name="Wide Awake">Wide Awake</a> the debut was a DIY success story garnering the attention of Spotify Editorials (Fresh Finds, Undercurrents, & Todays Indie Rock), as well as music critics and influencers including David Dean Burkhart.
The projects latest release, <a href="spotify:album:70LI1s0gEfqf7i8dSCJ4it" data-name="Tomorrows Unknown">Tomorrows Unknown</a>, is a 6 song follow up headlined by lead singles <a href="spotify:track:7Fp3hp8kA5fSsfB2MUmF8b" data-name="Good Times">Good Times</a>, <a href="spotify:track:544Krow8YCV0cQEhDiYwKb" data-name="Lost in My Head">Lost in My Head</a>, and <a href="spotify:track:0YvG1SZHHjzEpCMCUhB3Vf" data-name="1999">1999</a>. The sophomore EP expands upon the dreamy vibes of the debut while incorporating more cinematic elements including strings and a mellotron. Of the release Benfant says “Tomorrows Unknown is essentially a soundtrack to an indie film you've never seen, but one that feels strangely familiar even upon first listen. It's a vibe, a collection of thoughts & memories pieced together into a beautiful 15 minute adventure.”
