Dugo, the creative moniker of Takahiro Izutani, epitomizes a Tokyo-based electronic music producer and guitarist. His work innovatively merges flamenco-inspired guitar with contemporary electronic sounds, creating an organic fusion that reflects his personal visions and the landscapes he has witnessed.
In the 1990s, he played guitar for the progressive rock band Happy Family. During this period, the band produced two albums released by Cuneiform Records in the United States. Following the band's dissolution, Izutani transitioned to a successful career in the Japanese music industry as a music producer.
His solo venture, christened Dugo, emerged around this time. The project features a distinctive beat structure reminiscent of artists like <a href="spotify:artist:0cmWgDlu9CwTgxPhf403hb" data-name="Bonobo">Bonobo</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0uCCBpmg6MrPb1KY2msceF" data-name="Burial">Burial</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:7Eu1txygG6nJttLHbZdQOh" data-name="Four Tet">Four Tet</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:5oOhM2DFWab8XhSdQiITry" data-name="Tycho">Tycho</a>, coupled with a melancholic mood akin to the works of <a href="spotify:artist:32ogthv0BdaSMPml02X9YB" data-name="The Cinematic Orchestra">The Cinematic Orchestra</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2VZNmg4vCnew4Pavo8zDdW" data-name="Max Richter">Max Richter</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0WSSKmoRbxqLf3MnXInQ2J" data-name="Max Cooper">Max Cooper</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:7yxi31szvlbwvKq9dYOmFI" data-name="Jon Hopkins">Jon Hopkins</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:7E3BRXV9ZbCt5lQTCXMTia" data-name="Ólafur Arnalds">Ólafur Arnalds</a>.
In 2011, following the tsunami disaster in Japan, Izutani redirected his focus towards his artistry, culminating in the release of Dugo's debut album "Lingua Franca" in 2017. After a personal battle with COVID-19 in April 2020, he reinvigorated the Dugo project, prioritizing what he deemed most significant in his life. This renewed focus led to the release of the EP 'Recluse'.
