Pulling electricity from the silent, slow places in life isn’t always as easy as it seems. It requires
focus and vision and, perhaps most importantly of all, stillness. Dust are a deep south duo who
understand the importance of being still, taking time to pay attention, and harnessing the energy
found in the absence of so much bustle. Jarrod Burris and Matt Casey, two longtime friends and
musicians, took the time to refine their sound in places devoid of most of the speed or urgency
found in the day to day. Written on a farm in Munson, Florida, Dust’s music is dense in
shimmering brilliance while retaining a sharp, quiet confidence. The duo’s first EP, Heavy
Mental, was produced by Dave Hartley from The War on Drugs and every track is a glimpse, a
prologue, into what’s to come, but makes a serene statement that pulls influences from the past
together with modern highlights to make something completely its own. Whatever you’re looking
for, whatever you’re working toward, whatever piece you feel like you’re missing, Dust invite you
to slow down and experience the world around you. You never really know what you’re going to
find.
