Using his creative talent as a weapon to combat abject poverty, Dwayne Hugh Stewart is emerging on the local music scene as a vocal powerhouse. Born and raised in the community of Windsor Road, Spanish Town, Jamaica Stewart discovered his natural aptitude for music while attending St. Catherine High School.
Raised by his grandmother who tried her best to fill the gap of his absentee mom and dad, Stewart used music to cope with his feelings of abandonment and a source of hope to one-day escape poverty and achieve his dream of a better life.
In high school he earned the name “Voice,” due to his distinctive vocal abilities and innate ability to sing and DJ. His moniker has since evolved to “DVoyce”. As he grew older, he discovered that song writing came naturally for him. He would write songs daily that expressed his emotional state and describe the socioeconomic conditions of his surroundings, which empowered him to hone his talent.
Armed with a desire to succeed and being eager to improve upon his craft, DVoyce enrolled at Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. He studied music theory, got vocal training and guitar lessons and is now focused on having a positive impact on the world through his music.
Dwayne “DVoyce” Stewart’s journey is a prime example of how you should remain dedicated, discipline and determine in pursuing your dreams.
