Eddie Schwartz is a Canadian born songwriter, producer, recording artist and music rights advocate. Over a career that spans more than five decades, his music has generated a string of international hits and pre-streaming era physical sales well in excess of 65 million units worldwide.
Eddie is perhaps best known for writing “Hit Me with Your Best Shot” (Pat Benatar), “Don’t Shed a Tear” (Paul Carrack), “Special Girl” (Meatloaf) and “The Doctor” (Doobie Brothers). More than 200 of Eddie’s songs have also been recorded by artists such as Joe Cocker, Rita Coolidge, Peter Frampton, Lawrence Gowan, Martina McBride, America, Robert Palmer, Carly Simon and Donna Summer.
He is a Member of the Order of Canada and of the Canadian songwriters’ Hall of Fame, a winner of numerous JUNO and BMI awards, and a recent recipient of SOCAN’s prestigious Cultural Achievement award. As a champion for creators’ rights, Eddie is also president of the independent songwriter and composer alliance, Music Creators North America, past president of the Paris-based International Council of Music Creators, and has served served six terms on the board of Canadian music rights organization, SOCAN.
