Luis Fernando Quintero, aka “El Ingeniero” (the engineer), was born in Venezuela and is the son of Dr. Rubén Quintero and Dr. Lulula Quintero. When it came to music, the Quintero’s household didn’t discriminate. Rubén loved the classics, from Argentina to Mexico and Spain, while Lulula would sing all sorts of guarachas and ballads. Perhaps this exposure to all types of Latin genres prepared young Luis for what was to lie ahead.
When he was nine, Luis started playing drums and minor percussion for “Gaita” groups (a western Venezuela genre) in his beloved Colegio Humboldt and later with professional bands. Luis, a polyglot, has, in fact, traveled to countless countries where he has sung all types of Latin genres: from tango, merengue, salsa, and bolero. El Ingeniero has been a soloist for the Intevep Choir in Venezuela (directed by Raúl Delgado Estévez, together with El Cuarteto); Synthesis in Filadelfia, with the exceptional guitarist Lázaro Herrera. He has also sung with Dislocados (Ilya Yeresko) in Ukraine; Los Morenitos (Tony Musianto) and Primavera (Darbeni Susilo) in Indonesia; Fuego Latino (Willman Smith) in Singapore; Sin Fronteras (Roberto Morales) in Moscow, Mary’s Band (Mary Frómeta) in Houston, etc.
So get ready, because El Ingeniero is putting all his experience and expertise to hit the ground running in his career as a composer and soloist with an original, sometimes funny, sometimes sad, but always entertaining and catchy project of extraordinary quality.
