El Unico Gio
Born in Canada to Salvadoran parents, El Unico Gio has been deeply connected to music from a young age. He began his musical journey at just 10 years old, recording his first song at 14 and making his live debut at 15 at Edmonton’s iconic Citadel Theatre.
Throughout his career, El Unico Gio has collaborated with renowned artists worldwide, including LA CONNEXION, FULANITO, SONORA DINAMITA, BRRAY, and many others, showcasing his versatility and global appeal.
In 2021, he founded Basement Smoke Records, a groundbreaking label in Alberta committed to working with artists across all genres. His mission is to shine a spotlight on the immense talent within the province, offering a platform for emerging voices to be heard.
A trailblazer in Edmonton’s urban music scene, El Unico Gio made history in early 2023 as the first Latino musician from his city to be nominated for the prestigious Latin Awards Canada.
Currently, he continues to make waves as an active musician in Edmonton, infusing Alberta’s music scene with a unique Spanglish flavor. From R&B, hip hop, and boom bap to reggaeton, trap, and rock, El Unico Gio’s diverse projects reflect his passion for pushing boundaries and redefining genres.
