Beginning with piano at age 4, Elias had an early start with music, like many musicians. But as his mother always said, “he would never practice, and then when he’d go to his lesson, he’d tell the instructor that he couldn’t remember the song. Then when the instructor played it for him, he’d ‘remember’ and play it right back.”
Evidently he'd always had an ear for music.
Having taken up bass and guitar in his teenage years, Elias was then inspired to write his own songs after hearing singer-songwriters like Townes Van Zandt, Tom Waits, and Nick Drake. But his influences didn’t stop there. Moving to Chicago, he built upon his singer-songwriter roots by diving into music production, fusing influences ranging from Nicolas Jaar, Chet Faker, Hot Chip, Radiohead, and TV on the Radio.
His first album, Radio.1, released under his then-moniker, Avram, reveals this eclectic blend.
Following a burnout, Elias is back again with his signature sound to release ‘Honey’, a dark, yet danceable song rife with catchy melodies, infectious rhythms, and a theme many will recognize — sex. As he puts it, “I’ve never been confident. Never. And I’m always amazed by people who are, or at least by those who wear confidence with ease, whether they feel it or not. So this was my attempt to fake it. To feel sexy and cool in a way I never really have. I think I nailed it.”
With a slew of singles planned for release over the next 12 months, his hope is to see that confidence flourish into the real deal.
