Elisabeth Karsten is a Norwegian vocalist, vocal instructor, lyrics and songwriter. She alternates her musical performanc and sound between melodic jazz, improvisation and popular music.
She was born in Skien, Telemark where she from a very early age begun classical, modern, show and jazz ballet training and performances in addition to vocal training at the Norwegian Opera.
Due to the various explorations of styles within both ballet and singing she started to create her own music. Searching for one open and alternating honest sound, is an ongoing exploration, mirroring her journey within the different musical arenas. Her collaborations with various musicians , theatre groups, musical ensembles composers was a continuous source of inspiration and continues to be. Her performance’s stretches from intimate jazzclubs, concerts halls and churches.
In 1999 she got a record contract with Kirkelig Kulturverksted which led to her debut album FLUX, recorded in both Norwegian and English and distributed globally.
In the same period of time she commuted between USA and Norway over a period of six years. In the States, she primarily cooperated with Miami Sound Machine combined with concerts in clubs.
After returning to Norway on a permanent basis in the early 2000, she has primarily worked there in addition with international composers.
